Pashto ang Dari are the official languages of Afghanistan. Pashto is the national language of the country. Dari is and has been used for business and government transactions. Recent U.S. government estimates show that 35 percent of the Afghan population speaks Pashto, and about 50 percent of the population speaks Dari. It is said that 11 percent of the population speaks Turkic languages( Uzbek and Turkmen). Boluchi, Pashai, and Nuristani are just a few of the other languages spoken in Afghanistan.

The Constitution of 1343/1964 names Pashto and Dari as the official languages of Afghanistan.Dari was intended to signify that Afghans consider their conntry the cradle of languages.
