French II or III Individual Activity of about 5 hours
SUMMARY: Students will research and create a web
page about a particular regions of France or overseas French
department. This will include pictures and links. He will use
Front Page Express
for this activity.
OBJECTIVES: Students will learn in depth about a particular region and be able to share it to the class so that the class can be acquainted with different regions.
INTRODUCTION: This is a group activity. Each student chooses a region from a list taken from www.fr.yahoo.com. He will research it using only this site. The list is as follows:

STUDENT ACTIVITIES: After researching the regions the student will save and insert images from the regions of France. Different activities could be required of the students. In this particular class take a virtual tour of the region.
He will:
a) Write a paragraph telling where he went and with whom he went
there.
He should make his trip at the time he is writing it, check the
weather through this site and
include this on his report. Instructions for Front Page Express
are provided at the end of this list.
b) Mention at least two cities and have an image of one.
c) Provide images of at least three products or industries and label them in French.
d) Provide the name of a restaurant with its name and address.
e) Provide the name and address of a hotel in the region.
f) Provide an image of a sport being practiced with the name of the sport
g)Provide one link to his region.
h)Provide at least two images of landscape of countryside.
FRONT PAGE EXPRESS
1.
Open a start menu, programs, Internet Explorer, FrontPage
Express.
2.Once program
is open, go to Files, Save As and select As File. Save in A.(3
1/2 floppy A) Give it a name and click on Save. The file will be
saved as first.htm.
3. Once you have saved the file, go to Format on the Tool Bar.
Select Background and set background and text to correct colors.
4. To type in program you type just like in a regular
word processing progam. You select the font selection box in the
Tool Bar and, to enlarge text, you highlight the text and use the
enlarger button (A) next to the font selection. In order to save
image on floppy from Internet, right click on desired image.
Select Save Picture As... Select Floppy A, type in name, and
click save. The image is now saved on your floppy.
5. To insert picture, click Insert Image. Browse, select location
of the image (usually A), select image (from disk or hard) and
click open. Position image with justificaton buttons on the Tool
Bar. (The 3 buttons with horizontal lines). You can choose left,
center or right)
6. You can re-size the picture by clicking on it. You will see
small boxes surrounding the image. At a corner, place your
pointer at a position so that you et a double-headed arros. Drag
it out to make image larger or smaller or pull it in to make the
image smaller.
7. To insert a link to an Internet site, type the words that you
want to use as the link and highlight the text. Click on insert
and select Hyperlink and select http as Hyperlink Type. Type
address in URL box. The address in the box should be the entire
Web site address.
8. At this point it would be wise to save on floppy into the File
that you created in step one. Go to File, scroll down to Save,
click on Save.
9. To check to see how the page is working, go to File, Open,
Browse to A, choose your file, open, click on Open As Web Folder,
click Yes. You will get the browsing hand and you can click on
the link to see how it is working.
ASSESSMENT:
50% of grade is content of text
20% of grade is images of landscape
10% of grade is link
20 % of grade is products and sports image
CONCLUSION: Students were able to acquaint themselves
with a particular region in depth,
without spending alot of time searching for information and
writing text. This site has everything they need to complete
search. Their presentation of their web page to the class
gave each student an idea of the culture and geography of the
region.
TEACHER
GUIDE:
a) During the presentation each student can be given a paper with
the name of the regions As he listens to his classmate he should
fill in the city, at least one product, and any other information
the teacher may require.
b) The student can insert a picture of himself taken with a
digital camera and with text next to it with a greeting to his
audience.
