Abstract
TIPS -- Technology and Inquiry: Practical
Suggestions
This workshop will help you develop teaching techniques that
integrate Vernier sensor technology, video microscopy, digital
photography, readily available computer software and various
alternatives to lecturing. Tie
it all together in an atmosphere of inquiry from the perspective of
levels of organization. Explore photosynthesis from the stomata with
video capture to the ecosystem with carbon dioxide sensors; examine the
rhythms of heart rates in developing fish with video capture and adult
humans with EKG sensors, ask about measuring the rate of osmosis in a
model cell with conductivity sensors and in Paramecium
using video capture of contractile vacuoles. Use Microsoft Office 2000®
to compile multimedia lab reports with images and data.
All of this presented in non-lecture formats.
You will go home with ideas you can use in your classes the next
day and a vision for teaching and learning in the new millennium.
Participants will receive a resource manual, and A Guide to
Asking About Life for Teachers and TAs by Donald Cronkite.
Participants have a chance to win selected Microsoft software.
